Citroën reveal new saloon-SUV flagship

Flagship Citroën C5 X model features the latest evolution of Citroën’s dual-vane horizontal front grille, pioneered by 2016’s CXperience concept, with blade lights at the front and rear and bespoke styling cues. A liberal use of chrome suggests the C5 X has aimed higher with a premium focus and dimensions that make it the new range-topping Citroën model.

Citroën’s new C5 X SUV sits on the EMP2 platform, which is already used by Opel’s Grandland X SUV and Peugeot’s 508. The C5 X powertrain will be paired with an electric source for a combined output of 225 hp. A 13.2kWh battery should have an electric range of 50 kilometres. Full performance and economy figures aren’t yet available but Citroën will only offer petrol and hybrid powertrain options.

The C5 X has the silhouette of a saloon with ride height and practicality of an SUV. It will have 545 litres (1640 total) of boot space and a low load boot height with increased space for passengers in the rear. The infotainment system comes in the form of a 12” screen using the ‘My Citroën Drive Plus’ system, wireless updates are carried out over the air with conventional as well as voice recognition controls to navigate the system. There’s more technology in the cabin in the form of a head up display which projects driver information on the windscreen, using near augmented reality.
