Volkswagen Presents ‘Accelerate’ Strategy

Volkswagen has unveiled its future strategy up to and beyond 2030. Starting in 2026 VW plans to roll out a fully connected fleet using the cloud to continuously exchange data, connecting millions of cars and sharing information. A scalable platform system will lead to volume sales as well as software integration and a digital ecosystem.

The ID family will be the pioneer of this ecosystem. Using it, over 500,000 vehicles will be fully connected. Vehicles will always stay up to date with a database business model. Volkswagen will also see revenue streams across the life of the model i.e. each new owner of a vehicle throughout its life will be able to modify the spec of the car to their requirements. This is part of VW’s business model 2.0, enabling them to leverage future revenue streams.

The Trinity project will be the flagship software in VW’s electric cars. It’s a newly developed electronic platform, allowing new functions to be accessible to more drivers. Neural networks have been developed alongside the onboard software to support VW’s vehicles. Configurations of cars will be streamlined from the factory and later, increased functionality can be added with over the air updates.

As it currently stands, VW launch at least one new EV every year. The ID4 will launch from March – sold in Europe China and the US. All-electric vehicles will be expected to exceed 70 percent of European and 50 percent of Chinese and US sales volumes by 2030. Volkswagen hopes to make autonomous driving widely available by 2030.

Internal combustion engines will continue with Golf, Tiguan T-Roc etc successor models, with increased efficiency on each generation. VW sees cars as increasingly software driven products. The ID 3 is currently Ireland’s best selling EV with VW the top EV brand with 17.4% of the EV share.

Generating revenues throughout the lifecycle of the vehicles as well as joint ventures with companies in China, will be used to upscale & develop new technologies faster. Volkswagen’s goals are to make the cars and company carbon neutral by 2050. In the next 5 years VW will invest over 16 billion in E-Mobility.
