Opel Reveals Astra Details | Industry News

The eighth-generation Astra will have Opel’s new Vizor grille and the Mokka’s headlamp arrangement. The latest iteration of the company’s logo appears on the front and rear, and there’s also the option to specify two-tone paint.

Opel has paid particular attention to the Astra’s driving position, which has dropped by around 12mm. The seats have always been a priority in Opel’s cars and they’ll be available with ventilation and massage functions, as well as Alcantara upholstery.

The interior has changed a lot and the designers have removed most of the physical buttons from the dashboard, with controls for the air conditioning and ventilation systems now on the infotainment screen. The Pure Panel digital cockpit setup is borrowed from the Mokka, with double widescreen 10” displays. The interior is finished off with a new steering wheel design.

Another area of design that Opel constantly delivers on and the Astra will benefit, is the use of the latest Intelli-Lux LED Pixel units. The LED’s automatically adjust the beam pattern to light up challenging roads or avoid dazzling oncoming road users.

The new Astra will be available from the start with plug-in hybrid electric as well as petrol and diesel engines. Power ranges from 110hp to 130hp with the petrol and diesel variants and up to 225hp output with the plug-in hybrid. A six-speed gearbox is standard on the petrol and Diesel engines, with an eight-speed auto transmission (electrified on the plug-in hybrids) optional on the more powerful engines.

The all-new Astra will be in Ireland from early 2022, with prices and equipment announced closer to launch.
