Volkswagen’s All Wheel Drive GTX EV

Volkswagen continues to evolve and develop its EV line, launching the new GTX EV, Volkswagen says it is its first ID car with dual motor AWD. The system will automatically send power to the front axle when required, although Volkswagen says it will offer a performance AWD ‘Traction’ drive mode.

The front electric motor generates 220 kw/h with an overall push of 0-100 km/h time of just 6.2s. A total of 440 kms range will be available when fully charged and a quick charge of 30 mins should give 300 kms of range.

On board tech will include a HUD, and software improvements as well as some data exchanges will take place via over the air updates. The GTX features styling elements setting it apart from regular ID cars. It’s designed as a sporty SUV, with 20″ alloys, a new front bumper and special light additions with x in the middle of the cluster that glow when the driver hits the brake pedal.

Volkswagens ID 4 GTX features a lower ride height and a number of chassis updates in order to boost handling and performance.

The ID 4 GTX is set to be followed later this year by the ID 5, a coupé-crossover version of the ID 4. It is likely that model will also gain a GTX version eventually.

With Volkswagen focused on using all-wheel-drive dual-motor powertrains to meet the performance expectations of the GTX badge, it is unlikely that a hot version of the smaller ID 3 will be offered.
