Citroën launches C5 X | Industry News

With some rumbling of an SUV backlash, manufacturers still want to offer the usability of an SUV but without the unwanted attention that may come with them. And so we’re seeing more low roofline, Coupé/SUV crossovers. Citroën have recently launched the C5 X. Petrol and hybrid kick off the lineup with the hybrid engine built on a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that comes with a 13.2 kWh battery that powers the electric motor. While the powertrain is similar to that in the brand’s recently updated C5 Aircross SUV, the C5 X battery claims 55 kms of range.

Standard spec includes a seven-inch digital dash, heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, all-round parking sensors, rear-view camera, 19-inch wheels, adaptive LED headlights and advanced driver assistance systems.

The e-motor assists the combustion engine and it helps the e-EAT8 eight-speed automatic gearbox deliver smooth shifts.

There are two power sources, the 1.6 litre Puretech 180hp engine features an 8-speed automatic transmission and the Plug-in Hybrid version features a 1.6 litre petrol engine paired with an 80kW electric motor to deliver a combined power output of 225hp. The PHEV feels nice and swift enough and can move from 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds. But the C5 X plug-in, fitting with Citroën’s style, is more of a relaxed drive, try to push it and you’ll reach its limits of refinement quickly. The standard suspension in the petrol lineup is compliant. The plug-in hybrid C5 X’s feature Citroën’s Advanced Comfort Active adaptive suspension with Progressive Hydraulic Cushion tech.

The C5 X’s load bay is a shape which has been designed to withstand plenty of loading and unloading. There’s less space in the hybrid version with around 485 litres of boot space, which is around 60 litres less. Otherwise there’s a decent level of legroom in the rear seats despite the curved roofline there’s decent headroom.

The lineup for the C5 X starts with the Feel model, increasing to a Feel Pack, Flair and the range topping Flair Pack. The Feel model comes equipped with a 10 inch touchscreen with My Citroën Play and keyless entry & start. The Feel Pack introduces the hybrid versions with new Citroën Advanced Comfort Active Suspension. Flair brings an upgraded 12 inch touchscreen paired with the new eHUD Head-Up Display projected directly on to the windscreen. Finally, the range topping Flair Pack offers comfort and convenience with heated front seats and motorised rear tailgate.

Pricing for the New C5 X starts from €36,990 or from €359 per month with 2.9% APR finance.
