MG4 EV Details | Industry News

MG offer more details on its MG4 EV, latest updates ensure that ride and handling are improved to compete at a premium level. A modernized base and slim battery that lies across almost the full length of the wheelbase makes up the underpinnings. The motor will be rear mounted with MG aiming for a near perfect 50:50 weight distribution.

Most cars usually have up to three driving modes, the MG4 EV will have five (Normal/Sport/Eco/Snow/Custom). The drivers will have a choice of four regenerative braking modes, the strongest of which will apply 80% braking force.

There will be two powertrains based on a 168bhp motor. A 51kWh version will produce around 300 kms of range and can get from 0-100 km/h in just 7.7s. The 64kWh version will have around 450 kms of range. Trophy trim reduces this to 400 kms due to added weight. MG will have an Extended Range model with a bigger 77kWh battery producing 415kms of range. Most manufacturers offer some sort of performance version and with MG this is no different, a dual motor AWD model is planned, with around 443bhp and a sub-5 second 0-100km/h dash.

Competition comes in the form of the Cupra Born or iD.3 and as expected is priced below those models but aims high in quality. As a rear wheel drive car, the MG4 alps aims to match those cars dynamically.

While the design of the interior is minimalist l, the spec list is long with LED headlights and rear lights, rear parking sensors, 17-inch alloys, adaptive cruise, auto climate control, there’s also MG’s iSmart app and a Pilot advanced driver assistance system.

Premium trims will have a two-tone roof, privacy glass, rear spoiler, leather interior, heated front seats and steering wheel, a Bluetooth key, sat nav, a 360 camera and wireless phone charging. MG have also developed their iSmart system to offer live services. The MG Pilot system has been upgraded, with it now comes Blind Spot Detection (just another flashing light), Lane Change Assist (not as useful on badly designed Irish roads) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (one of the better safety systems to have).
