The Astra estate lives and now with plug-in hybrid technology. Opel’s Astra Sports Tourer will loose a little boot space for the hybrid tech but the hatchback will have 608 litres without the hybrid battery and 548 litres with. There’ll be either 1,574 or 1,634 litres seats folded folded depending on the spec.

As well as the hybrid option they’ll still be offering standard diesel and petrol versions with power outputs from 108bhp to 128bhp from the two 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol units (in 108bhp and 128bhp guise) and the 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel with 128bhp.

An 8 speed auto will be standard on the hybrid while there will also be a six speed manual standard on the rest of the lineup. Both plug-in hybrid options come in the form of a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 12.4kWh battery driving an electric motor with a total of 178bhp or 222bhp.

Opel’s always had comfortable and supportive seats, the front seats of the new Astra are certified by Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V. / Campaign for Healthier Backs (AGR). The seats feature a wide range of adjustments, from electric tilt to electro-pneumatic lumbar support.

The new Astra Sports Tourer will come to market in Ireland in summer 2022. Prices, trims and standard equipment will be announced closer to launch.
