Cupra Born Revealed | Industry News

Spanish performance brand Cupra has unveiled its all new Born electric car. The electric Cupra Born goes on sale with a choice of the 45 kWh, 58 kWh or 77 kWh powertrains. The range on each goes from 340 km for the 45kWh , 420 km for the 58 kWh and 520 km from the 77 kWh powertrains.

Starting at €31,440, sales of the Cupra Born are likely to start towards the end of the year, with the first customer cars arriving around March 2022. Every version is rear-wheel drive, although four-wheel-drive models are expected to be offered.

Buyers can spec the mid-range 58kWh model with an e-Boost function which temporarily increases power to 228bhp, reducing the 0-100 km/h time to 6.6 seconds. At the top of the range, the 77kWh battery model comes with e-Boost as standard and manages 0-100 km/h in 7 seconds with a range of up to 520 km. Using 100kW DC charging, you can get to 80 % charge in 47 minutes or get 260 kilometers of range in just 30 minutes.

Up front there’s a short bonnet leading to a fared-in radiator grille. Around the side the  large quarter light windows lead back to the tailgate spoiler. The Born also features a lowered ride-height, 20” alloys, aggressive front and rear bumpers, finned side skirts. Thanks to a low-mounted battery, Cupra promises the Born will offer a sportier driving experience than the ID.3 on which it’s based.  In keeping with the brand’s performance focus,  it has a near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution for balanced and secure handling.

Inside there’s a pair of figure-hugging bucket seats, a digital instrument binnacle, floating 10” infotainment screen and touch-sensitive controls for the car’s heating and ventilation system. It also features an Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel. Some extra tricks up its sleeve include a head up display and an integrated heat system that won’t draw energy from the car’s battery.
