Volkswagen rolls out ID.5 SUV Coupe & GTX | Industry News

Volkswagen’s latest ID5 models will go up against the Kia EV6 and Audi’s Q4 e-tron Sportback. The ID.5 coupe-SUV has the same underpinnings as the ID.4, meaning its width, length and wheelbase all remain the same.

The maximum charging capability is 135kW DC which means the ID.5 can charge to 80 % capacity in 26 minutes.

The entry-level ID.5 Pro features a 172bhp electric motor on the rear axle, with a 0-100 km/h time of 10.4 seconds and a limited top speed of160 km/h. The mid-range Pro Performance variant will have a 201bhp electric motor at the rear, which reduces the ID.5’s 0-100 km/h time of 8.4 seconds.

The performance GTX will have an extra motor on the front axle giving a combined output of 295bhp and four-wheel drive. The ID.5 GTX’s range drops to 490 km, but it also slashes its 0-100 km/h time to 6.3 seconds with a top speed of 180km/h.

Volkswagen has also tuned the ID.5 GTX’s chassis, so it can handle the extra performance. There’s lowered suspension and upgraded brakes, and you can also option to spec VW’s Dynamic Chassis Control adaptive dampers.

The ID.5’s cabin doesn’t use any animal products and you get the same 6” digital instrument cluster and 12” infotainment system as the ID.4. There’s 549 litres of boot space, which is six litres more than you get in the ID.4.

The ID.5 will have a drag coefficient of just 0.26Cd, which boosts its maximum range to 500 km, which is an increase of 1.6 km over the longest-range ID.4.
