All new Astra revealed | Industry News

Opel’s all-new Astra goes right after the Volkswagen Golf. The Mk8 Astra will now come with two electric powertrains. There will be a 222bhp version which uses the same 1.6 litre engine from the Peugeot 308.

The cabin has had a complete re-design and comes with elements from the Mokka. The Pure Panel digital cockpit setup has two widescreen 10-inch displays – one for the instruments and one for infotainment. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported.

The full range will consist of a 1.2-litre petrol or 1.5-litre diesel unit with outputs ranging between 108bhp and 128bhp. The combustion engines will come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard with an eight-speed auto available on more powerful variants. Models with the auto gearbox will be capable of bringing the car to a halt and automatically set off again in stop-start traffic. Other features will include a 360-degree camera, traffic sign recognition, rear cross-traffic alert and lane assist.
