Peugeot reveal Le Mans Hypercar | Industry News

Peugeot reveal Le Mans Hypercar, contender for the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Peugeot will join already-present Toyota on the WEC grid.

Ex F1 drivers Kevin Magnussen, Paul Di Resta, Mikkel Jensen, Gustavo Menezes and Jean-Eric Vergne, with James Rossiter serving as reserve and simulator driver, will all drive for Peugeot in the World Endurance Championship and the Le Mans 24 Hours.

The 9X8 is powered by a rear-mounted, 2 litre, twin-turbo, 671bhp petrol V6 engine. This will the be combined with a front-mounted 268bhp electric motor and seven-speed sequential gearbox.

The 9X8’s most notable feature is the absence of a rear wing. According to technical director Oliver Jansonnie: “The regulations stipulate that only one adjustable aerodynamic device is permitted, without specifying the rear wing. Our calculation work and simulations revealed that high performance was effectively possible without one.
