BMW Debut xDrive M3 Comp Saloon and BMW xDrive M4 Comp Coupe

The 2022 BMW M3 Competition xDrive and M4 Competition xDrive will hit dealerships towards the end of the year with the xDrive M3 starting at €127,685 and the xDrive M4 starting at €129,905. The increasingly diminishing 0-100 km/h is now done in 3.5 seconds (0.4 seconds faster than the rear-wheel drive models).

On the back of key financial performance figures for Q1-21, BMW have managed to exceeded market expectations. BMW has reported sales growth in all significant regions of the world, and in particular China, and across all brands in the first quarter of 2021. And lucky for us, they intend to keep developing key performance models such as the M3 and M4.

As expected, the M3 and M4 Competition xDrive boast better acceleration than their rear-drive-only versions, with both hitting 100 km/h from rest in just 3.4 seconds – some 0.4 seconds quicker than the rear-wheel-drive Competition cars.

Owners can set and store preferred M xDrive mode as part of the two individual M1 and M2 configurations, together with engine characteristics, damper response, steering characteristics and braking systems etc. The configurations can then be called up instantly at any time by pressing one of the two quick select M buttons on the steering wheel.

Just like the M5, the M3 and M4 Comp’s xDrive system features three modes: default 4WD, 4WD Sport prioritising the rear, and full 2WD which disables the front axle completely and requires stability control to be off.

Both the new M3 and M4 Comp xDrive both put down 510 hp and 650 Nm of torque from a twin-turbo straight-six. The xDrive system is fully variable, shuffling torque between the front and rear wheels using an electronically controlled, multi-plate clutch while an Active M Differential splits rear-axle torque left and right.
