Mercedes reveal EQS

Mercedes all new from the ground up EQS features a 107.8-kilowatt-hour battery pack offering an impressive 770 kilometres of range (WLTP). Helping that range is a 0.20 drag coefficient, making the EQS an extremely aerodynamic vehicle. You can have it with a single electric motor mounted at the rear axle with 329 hp, or with a second motor up front, producing a bigger output of 516 hp. Torque is around 406 pound-feet ready to shift the EQS to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Using a fast charger and 200-kilowatt charging, 300 kilometres of range can be added in around 15 minutes.

The electric motors have been extensively isolated from the chassis to reduce EV whine, while special glass and some foam-filled body panels will ensure maximum noise reduction. Mercedes will also offer a series of “Sound Worlds” with bespoke tones for acceleration, regen and startup. As well as mood-enhancing ‘soundscapes’ and a unique fragrance for the interior to hide any exterior odors.

It should come as no surprise that the EQS is a large car (around the same size as an S-Class) and thanks to standard rear-wheel steering, it turns as well as a much smaller C-Class. With its standard air suspension, it’s safe to say the EQS should have a polished and smooth drive.
