New DS4 for 2022 | Premium French Crossover

DS has entered the compact class with the DS4 premium model for 2022.

With the DS3 the French have small cars covered, the DS7 is aimed at those interested in mid-size suvs and the DS9 is aimed at customers in the compact class. The new DS4 will be a great addition in 2021 (Q1 in 2022 for Ireland) with its plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Like many other PSA models the DS4 is based on the EMP2 platform, which is suitable for using with different drive trains.  The plug-in hybrid drivetrain has 225 horsepower from the turbocharged 180 horsepower 4-cylinder Petrol engine and the 110 horsepower electric motor through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The torque flows through the front wheels in pure electric mode with a WLTP range of approx 50 kilometers. The DS4 comes as a four-door model with a coupe like roof and a high rear.

The DS4 goes all out with equipment. information is projected four meters in front of the vehicle via head-up display. Combined with a night vision system it aids the ability to see better in the dark. The 21-inch display shows information such as speed, driver assistance systems, navigation, warnings or even music information.

The infotainment system is controlled by voice or gesture. Individual user interfaces can be created, a cloud connection ensuring that the map is always up to date.

The possibility exists of autonomous level 2 driving using the DS drive assist 2.0 which is based on laser radar. Cameras allow the DS4 to drive semi-autonomously. This technology positions the DS4 centrally in a lane and enables semi-automatic overtaking and will adjust the speed for bends in the road. The sensors also recognise road surfaces and actively adjust the chassis accordingly.

The DS4 also uses intelligent matrix led light that optimises the illumination of roads in all weather situations but shouldn’t dazzle oncoming traffic. The French are also proud of the air conditioning technology that operates via almost invisible openings in the dashboard.

Electric models will one day join the lineup. Currently the DS4 PHEV will take 1 hour 45 mins for quick charge and 3 hours to slow charge for the 50km range.
