VW’s Arteon Starts to Take Shape

With an updated engine range and a new Shooting Brake variant, Volkswagen will launch the Arteon into a tumultuous market and hope to take it head on. The saloon will feature an updated front bumper with new air intakes, tweaked LED headlamps and revised radiator grille, on top of that the shooting brake will have a low curved rear end.

The Arteon will be given an all-new interior, with the latest MIB3 infotainment system. The new technology system could take it’s lead from the Passat which comprises a 11.7-inch digital instrument binnacle and a 9.2-inch infotainment system. Under the driver’s supervision, the system can assume control of the vehicle’s steering, acceleration and braking on the motorway at speeds up to 130mph. Ireland will see the 1.5-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel at the start of September, with the Arteon R and the Arteon eHybrid in November. With the the Arteon R and the Arteon eHybrid joining the lineup later in November.

A new option could see semi- autonomous driving mode “Travel Assist” which assumes control of the vehicle’s steering, acceleration (up to 130mph) and braking on the motorway. It’s likely the 215bhp plug-in hybrid powertrain from the Skoda Superb iV will also feature in the lineup.

The rest of the range will come in the form of the entry-level 148bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel, while a 268bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol unit will also be available. Outgoing prices should see a small increase on the current €39,995.00 asking price.
