The new Mercedes A Class as expected, pays a lot of attention to detail. If you think the exterior is handsome. Wait until you experience the interior. One of the most pleasant you could spend time in.
The MBUX works well and is responsive. Haptic touch response takes a little getting used to. The “hey Mercedes” voice activation system is brilliant and picks up instructions quickly and turns itself off when you’ve had enough of the sat nav.
This A Class AMG line 180 Diesel comes in at €35,505, is €200 to tax, builds 116bhp from a 1461cc engine. It’s in Cosmos Black Metallic and has a host of extras including 18” AMG alloys, AMG Body kit, Lowered Comfort Suspension, MBUX multimedia system ✅, Sports Seats ✅ with optional extras: Parking package, mirror package, Nav and 10.5 inch display ✅, metallic paint and speed limit assist. It gives the impression it’s sporty, the Diesel engine quells that enthusiasm but just look how handsome.
As this is an A 180d, it means a full tank gives you just over (circa)800km of range. I tried it in sport, eco and comfort modes from the adjustable steering and drive selections but the one that suits this Diesel engine the most is the laid back comfort mode.
Sport doesn’t eek a whole lot out of the 1461cc engine and makes the throttle zip n dip. It’s overly eager and then the power dips. The nose is very low so you’ll need to be wary on steep inclines and speed bumps. It’s all in the name of good design though, which it accomplishes fully!
Special mention : The interior design is magnificent. Everything looks and feels great to touch. And you see something new with every glance.
Needs work : It’s got something of a split personality, it’s athletic to look at but doesn’t follow up, I’m sure this will be rectified in the AMG 45. Pop! Pop!
